  • The winter buds of 'Dorothy Wyckoff' are an eye-catching deep red, opening to pale pink flowers in clusters on long racemes. The dramatic new foliage is reddish, turning dark green on lance-shaped leaves. This variety blooms well into May. Pieris is a very easy-care shrub when planted in the right location. Although hardy, it's best planted in a spot sheltered from biting winds in winter to protect its evergreen leaves. It will like part shade, not deep shade. Moisture is important so planting in organically rich soil, mulching, and regular watering are called for. Pieris are considered lime haters. Feed only with a slow release food for acid loving plants. It won't be fond of quick shots of liquid food that can burn roots.
